Cutting Board Care
You’ve invested in a piece of functional art. With the right care, your Patriot Maker cutting board will last for generations. Wood is a living material—it breathes, expands, and contracts. Here is how to keep it in fighting shape.
✓ DO:
- Hand wash with warm soapy water after every use.
- Wipe dry immediately with a clean towel.
- Store your board on its edge to allow even airflow.
- Apply food-grade mineral oil once a month.
✗ NEVER:
- Put it in the dishwasher (it will warp and crack).
- Soak it in the sink or leave it in standing water.
- Use vegetable or olive oils (they go rancid).
- Use harsh chemicals or bleach.
When to Oil Your Board
If your board looks "thirsty" or light in color, it's time for a refresh. We recommend using a high-quality Food-Grade Mineral Oil or a Board Butter (a beeswax and oil blend).
- Clean and dry the board thoroughly.
- Apply a generous layer of oil to all sides.
- Let it soak in overnight.
- Buff off any excess with a clean rag in the morning.
- For enhanced durability, buff with a food safe wax.*
Pro Tip: To remove odors (like onion or garlic), sprinkle coarse salt over the board and rub it with half a lemon. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse and dry.
*This is the product I use and recommend.
